DMAOnline discussion at the UCISA CISG Research Systems seminar

I attended the UCISA Corporate Information Systems Group (CISG) Research Systems seminar on the 23rd of September. The theme of the seminar was broadly supporting Research, and discussions ranged from development of Research IT strategy to Research Data Management and Analytics. See the full programme of the day if you are interested.

During the event’s networking opportunities, I managed to spark discussions on DMAOnline with colleagues. It was quite timely considering the theme of the event was primarily around RDM and Analytics. I had very positive feedback from University of Warwick colleagues who showed a lot of interest. Warwick currently uses ideate as their CRIS which is not a common one here in the UK. However, the information from ideate flows to the well established EPrints repository from where data can be harvested in DMAOnline. University of Manchester is also currently implementing Pure, which will require changes to their existing work flows. This would also mean that their existing SharePoint based Analytics dashboard may not work in the future. This is a great opportunity for us to see if we can work with Manchester and replicate all in their existing dashboard in DMAOnline. I have asked Mary McDerby to provide us with the screenshots of their existing dashboard to analyse this further.

I also spoke to Rory McNicholl of ULCC about wider adoption of DMAOnline as a key part of their hosted EPrints solution. Rory has always been interested in the idea and in fact he has been playing around with the code of DMAOnline to test this idea. I am hoping that we will be able to establish a partnership which will allow us to deliver DMAOnline as a core part of hosted EPrints service. More to come on this, watch this space.
